Letter to Prime Minister of India over detention of Taslima Nasreen

The Bangladeshi writer and humanist Taslima Nasreen, having incurred the implacable hostility of extreme Islamists in her own country, found refuge for six years in India in West Bengal in India. She was then expelled from there by the state authorities and at the time of this letter was in a restrictive protective custody in New Delhi and threatened with expulsion from the country. E-mail to President of Afghanistan over death sentence on student journalist Parwiz Kambakhsh

No reply was received to this email of February 2008.  On October 21, the appeal court refused to overturn the verdict but commuted his death sentence to 20 years’ imprisonment.  In September 2009, however, he was released from prison and left the country.. 5 February 2008 Mr President I write on behalf of the European Humanist Federation, which represents thirty-eight organisations in seventeen countries.
