This year, the European Humanist Federation held its General Assembly in Bucharest (24 May) alongside two other important humanist meetings : International Humanist and Ethical Union General Assembly (26 May) and a joined conference on “Education, Science and Human Rights” co- organised with the Romanian Humanist Association and the IHEU (25 May). Changes to Bylaws Apart from the regular business of the General Assembly (approving the annual report and accounts, budgets and plans), this year we also approved some significant changes to our bylaws. These will be included in the Bylaws on this website once they have received official approval by the Belgian authorities. Parallel to the EHF General Assembly and Open Meeting there is the possibility for professionals to visit Dutch humanist professionals at their workplace. These visits have been organised by European Humanist Professionals (EHP) in cooperation with the Dutch Humanist Alliance. In the first part of the day, there will be two groups. Our General Assembly, Open Meeting and Conference this year were held at the end of May in Utrecht, Netherlands. The General Assembly and Open Meeting were on Friday 25 May. The conference started with a keynote speech on Friday evening and ended at lunchtime on Sunday 27 May. Our first meeting, on the morning of Friday 6 May, had a long agenda, including many contributions from member organisations. We met in an upstairs room of the ancient Palazzo Ducale, overlooking a large piazza. The date and the place were unfortunate: a strike meeting started outside in the piazza with loudly amplified speeches and great noise. This year our meetings were held in Stockholm, Sweden. We started with a well attended open meeting in the morning of Friday May 28. Our General Assembly followed in the afternoon. The next day – Saturday May 29 – we held a one-day conference on Women and Religion, as detailed below.The meetings were held at ABF, 41 Sveavägen, in central Stockholm. The open meeting before the 2009 General Assembly was devoted to two topics. In the first session, Vera Pegna spoke on The rule of law and why it matters to humanists and secularists.
