The links below provide accounts of some of the EHF’s conferences, in reverse chronological order. Most were held in conjunction with our annual general assemblies; some reports include information about other meetings held at the same time.

 

2011: Moral Foundations in A Godless World, and How to Discuss Them

This conference was held on May 6-8 in Genova, Italy in conjunction with our General Assembly.

2010: Women and Religion

This conference was held on May 29 in Stockholm in conjunction with our General Assembly.

2009: Darwin, Humanism and Science

The keynote speakers at this one-day conference were Richard Dawkins and A C Grayling. It was held in London on June 5 in association with our General Assembly. The detailed programme is available here. and an enthusiastic review is here. The event was jointly sponsiored with IHEU, the British Humanist Assocation and the South Place Ethical Society.

2008: Symposium on Human Rights

A conference on human rights and other meetings were held on 15-16 May before and after the 2008 General Assembly in Athens.

2008: Colloquium on Secularism and Human Rights

This one-day colloquium was supported by the European Union through BEPA.

2007: Social Cohesion in a Multicultural Europe (the ‘3Is’ Conference: International, Intercultural and ‘Interconvictional’)

This conference on Social Cohesion in a Multicultural Europe was jointly organised with a number of religious and other groups.

2007: Secularism, Civil Rights and Neutrality of Public Institutions: Comparison of Experiences in an Intercultural Europe

A conference on Secularism was held on Saturday June 16, 2007 in Torino, Italy, in collaboration with the Consulta Torinese per la Laicità delle Istitutzioni and the Unione degli Atei e degli Agnostici Razionalisti (UAAR). Other meetings were also held in conjunction with the 2007 General Assembly.

2006: Promotion of Secularism in Spain, Europe and in the EU

A symposium on Promotion of Secularism in Spain, Europe and in the EU was held on Saturday June 24, 2006 in Toledo, Spain in collaboration with Europa Laica. This was organised in conjunction with the 2006 General Assembly.

2005: The Limits of Religious Freedom

A Symposium on the Limits of Religious Freedom was held on Saturday June 25 in Berlin, Germany, in collaboration with Humanistischer Verband Deutschlands (HVD). This was organised in conjunction with the 2005 General Assembly.

2003: Colloquium on the proposed European Constitution

To coincide with the EU intergovernmental conference in Rome on 29-30 November 2003, EHF and the Union of Atheists, Agnostics and Rationalists (UAAR) organised a colloquium on the proposed European constitution under the title “Secularism is essential for the equal treatment of citizens by the institutions”.

2003: Conference on Islam and Muslims in the European area : a Challenge for Humanism

The EHF and La Pensée et les Hommes organised this conference on 28 February and 1 March 2003 in the European Parliament in Brussels.

2002: Conference on Co-existence of Religious Communities and Humanists in Europe

The EHF and the Polish Humanist Federation jointly organised a conference on “Humanism and democracy in Central Europe : co-existence of different lifestances” in the Polish Parliament in Warsaw on 25-26 October 2002.
